Tides of fortune

A shipwrecked captain,
With nothing to steer,
his worth fell to shambles,
And disheveled he appeared.

How the mighty can fall
At the helm, he shone,
Steady in form, he drove,
Barking in crisp tones.

Change in fortunes,
Happen in an instant,
Hurricanes and tornadoes,
Laid seeds of his descent.

With not a ray of hope,
He wandered astray,
Such are the tales of many,
Filled, of many life's cliches.
