Reflection

Looking back at the year past,
Memories, for a lifetime will last,
A new home, fingers crossed,
Starting fresh, in it time slowly passed.

Success were few, failures more,
Some events in the year, were quite sore,
Time spent with family and friends,
For everything else, that makes amends.

Visitors at home, were quite a few,
On a few trips, we traveled too,
Life can never be a balance sheet,
One thing that it can be is bitter sweet.

Years later, when I will look back,
Will this be a year, that I will keep track?
Memory is short and so is life,
Of such years, life will be rife!

Train travel travails

Inside the train, snaking through,
Valleys and gorges and over bridges,
Time moves, as if in a standstill,
I see others, but I feel detached.

As dusk falls, the lights are out,
The homes lining the tracks light up,
Children running back to their homes,
Lamps are lighted outside in prayers.

I watch from inside, as if unaffected,
Slowly, I see life passing by along,
Routines are kept up, in the outside,
I however break mine for this journey

Diaspora within is a dispersion,
Floating population, varied destination
For a brief moment, these lives merge
The disparate travails of travel abound.

Holiday greens

Holidays are here, to celebrate,
Over the lights, my eyes wander,
Economy this year, will dictate,
Balancing by thrift, the squander.

Anything down has a way up,
Patience it demands in such times,
Splurge with kindness and you'll triumph,
Setting aside nickels and dimes.

These are times to stay upbeat,
To maintain and to nurture,
Onward with optimism, not retreat,
With all hopes for a bright future.

Cheery insights

Surrender to the joys abound,
Relish the sights to see,
Hear the melody all around,
Remember to laugh with glee,
Recollect memories that astound,
Treasure all these, that are free!

Home and back

A visit back home,
Bitter sweet in review,
Homes to visit, time to roam,
Family are all over are strew.

Home is forgiving,
Sympathetic and magnanimous,
Consoling any misgiving,
the feeling is unanimous.

One drifts away, far off,
Patiently, but home awaits,
Warding away one's scoff,
Forever open are her gates.

This little one

This little one, today, I behold,
A connection, unspoken, untold,
In her, I see my own, my old,
A friendship, I seek to uphold.

For her, to all I beseech,
Hold her, to stars as she'll reach,
Learn, she will from all I teach,
Act, she will, defying speech.

To God, on this day, I implore,
One, who everyone around will adore,
Carry her, on her way to explore,
Pearls of wisdom - safe in her store.

Today, in her beautiful presence,
Just soaking in her sweet essence,
Bathed in contentment, immense,
Any doubts today, will dispense.

Growing old, I will see her grow,
A great life to her, I'll bestow,
March ahead, she will, others in tow,
She is the best, I know, I just know!

Obscure verse

In the sandy river bed,
Unseen by eye, undisturbed,
Soft and smooth pebbles abound,
Untouched and not yet found.

This vagrant piece of paper,
Words floating, almost vapor,
Creation born to remain unread,
And, no praise on it showered.

A rhyme - the best that was,
The only one with no flaws,
Perfection, if ever there's one,
But, Alas! A pity, seen by none.

Aweary

Men tire, growing weary,
Matters dire, eyes bleary.

Turbulence and turmoil

The markets all over are thrashed.
Effortlessly records too are smashed.
Economy is in a spiraling whorl,
Vindictive blows, it does hurl.

Let things be and take its course,
Intervene and it could break the bourse,
Deliberate long and discuss hard,
Nourish the depleted and the ones scarred.

Many a giants have dissolved,
Zest weaken and guilt unabsolved,
A few trinkets are all that is left,
Life ceases as people leave bereft.

Laud the torn tome!

Onto being shredded into tatters,
taking along with it, nothing that matters,
Selflessly giving away all that was,
Letting itself go for a noble cause.

This book in its heydays, imparted,
Forays into territories previously uncharted,
Many a hungry mind was satiated,
Setting foot where others, to tread, feared.

One of mankind's greatest discovery,
Aiding socities on their way to recovery,
A chronicle of countless past glories,
Manuscripts with scores of sorry stories.

Here's to the unassuming tome,
Patiently through it, as one does comb,
Every volume is a rousing find,
Stimulating indeed to the human mind.

Mind of mine

Listening to the color of my mind,
As I wind down, after the daily grind,
It speaks to me in colorful hues,
Sometimes, it acts as my muse.

My mind seems to have a mind of its own,
Over it, I don't reign, nor do I own,
Letting my imaginations run wild,
Taking care to not get it riled.

Listening to the color of my mind,
As I wind down, after the daily grind.

Tide a time...

Monday Mural

Are we in fact in a time warp?
"There is no time, we do harp?
Can we really distort time?
Is twisting time really a crime?

What do we make of it today?
For irreverence we do pay,
Any minute saved, is a gain,
Waste it and we will be in pain.

The wait for time is long drawn,
Its here now and now its gone,
Now is this moment, this instant,
Future is far away and distant.

Father time is growing old,
Branching out, we are told,
Time waits for not a soul,
Churning, it continues to roll!

Happy Onam!

Flowers and feast,
to say the least,
Festivity galore,
Prosperity in store.

Traditions abound,
Contemporary found,
Culture prevails,
Convenience entails.

Expansive celebration,
Elaborate preparation,
Embrace the new,
To the old, stay true.

The time is auspicious,
And harvest propitious,
Continues to enthrall,
Good wishes to all!

Deliberate dialogue

"What, oh, what, do I do?"
I asked with a huge sigh,
"One after another problems anew,
Life moves a step toward awry."

"Why do you take on worries?
What is that you dread?
Days go by, time just scurries,
Take life by the moment", he said.

"I have no one to blame but me",
I said on the verge of tears.
He consoled me, "better it will be,
Once you overcome your fears."

A distraction, a hiatus is what I seek
From the monotony of the routines,
Carrying on I am, like a meek,
Mechanically, like the machines.

Talking to him, changes things,
To cheer me up, he goes to any length.
Talking to him, my fears take wings,
For, he is my pillar of strength!

Glowing
Shining

Leaning
She has a slight glowing shining look
Standing in a preening, leaning crook.

Vacation!

Desperate for a vacation,
I am off to tropical nation,
Time will slowly lapse,
On the chair, as I collapse,
Away from all the stress,
Taking a little recess,
Bitten by the travel bug,
Off I go, with a bag to lug!

Olympics

It is an essential part of life,
This glorious game of sport,
Harmonious and absent of strife,
It is an essential part of life,
Catnaps and quick bites are rife,
Sourness is disagreeable & is thwart,
It is an essential part of life,
This glorious game of sport,

Chancing destiny

Settled it is on this glorious day,
Mottled is my life with success,
Rattled or bored I cease to be,
Battled strongly, will be any distress.

Old habits are said to prevail,
Mould my future, I will in gear,
Fold, I will not in my efforts,
Behold my will to persevere!

Glow of gloom

Settle for less,
A habit, I confess
Boredom in excess,
All lead to stress,
Life needs a recess

Happiness I feign,
Trying to, in vain,
Of existence, my bane,
Events cause a drain,
From wallow, I abstain!

Consequence!

Time to face my fears,
The thought sends a shiver,
Do I cry myself to tears?

As the day of reckoning nears,
My voice has a little quiver,
Time to face my fears,

Expectation of many a dears,
Results, I hope to deliver,
Do I cry myself to tears?

Intimate a positive, it appears,
Heart beats like an untamed river,
Time to face my fears,

Waiting, hands folded in prayers,
Seeking from HIM, the giver,
Do I cry myself to tears?

Looking for some cheers,
Of hope there is a sliver,
Time to face my fears,
Do I cry myself to tears?

Long long ago...

Looking back, I feel old,
Recollection is a strain, truth be told,
Look back to an earliest one,
Think I must, a memory to summon.

I must have been about three,
Playing by myself, happy as can be,
Found something strange on the floor,
Next thing I know, my breathing's sore!

A panicked yell from my mother,
Off to hospital, dashed rather,
I did give them all a scare,
Do it again, I wouldn't dare.

A fine evening years ago,
Was to be special, little did I know,
Clutched the handle of the scooter,
I was off to see someone cuter.

Tightly holding on a lollipop,
My only concern, lest it drop.
Later, when I do remember,
I know I welcomed a new family member!

Homeward bound!

Aboard my million dollar ride,
Across time zones, I stride,
Onto my destination, I proceed,
A trip back home is joy indeed.

Stories to swap on a late night chat,
Trip down the memory lane, is just that.
By the time it ends, I do concede,
A trip back home is joy indeed.

A vacation, on which I hoped to revive
Unnoticed by me, elation did arrive,
This is exactly what I did need,
A trip back home is joy indeed.

Aboard my million dollar ride,
A trip back home is joy indeed.

Jolt of joy!

Monday Mural

A delicate beauty, gleaming,
Slowly, by the sun scorched.
Wilting away, withering off
Shriveling gradually in fatigue.

All it takes is a sprinkle,
A cloudy respite would do,
Back to blossoming it goes,
Unmindful of sun's fury.

Isn't life ever so similar?
Challenges all along the way,
Droopy shoulders let out a sigh,
all need a breath of fresh air!

A little spray is what we need,
No one awaits a pouring shower
Little pearls of joy one collects,
To smile away all the tears.

Blank!

Today I draw a blank,
Writing now for writing sake,
Among the bottom, I would rank,
Excuses here, I try to make

Clichés I seek to avoid,
But, on days like today,
Of ideas, when I am devoid.
Mediocre is the price I pay.

Childish a word comes to mind,
Tag this in the class sub par,
This day I come to find,
I need to lower the bar.

The more and more I begin to fuss,
Looking for that one spark,
My brain feels like a sticky mess
Looks like emptiness left its mark.

Flocked

Three birds of a feather,
Vagaries they weather,
Musical notes tied together,
On beauty & melody, they tether,
Tunes so soft, they don't smother,
Pausing to take a breather
Come closer, come hither,
Soon, before the songs wither!

Farewell

Her heart is like falling leaves,
Today, as someone close leaves.

Time together spent has come to an end,
Taking along the memories, he leaves.

The history between them is long,
For her to go, she needs her leaves.

She stood waving, in the narrow alley,
Eyes following his steps on the strewn leaves.

Just the other day, Just someone said,
Goodbyes are always hard, when one leaves!

Crown prince!

The Prince!!!
In his priestly robes,
Adorning the royal ring,
He strolls through the garden,
Waving to the awaiting throng of crowds,
Under the magnifying glass of public eye, all the time,
His private life, and his childhood dreams, taking a backseat,
Oh! There are unseen and unheard rigors of being the crown prince.

Momentous impetus!

In the pouring rain, she frolicked,
Not a worry in her mind, carefree,
To the vagaries, she was indifferent,
To enjoy life, she didn't need a reason.

Things hadn't been this way always,
To her friend, her sorrows, she poured,
She used to cry for no real reason,
And, to life, she was indifferent.

A conscious decision she had made,
Pouring into it, her heart and soul,
To live well, her motivating reason,
And, to others, she became indifferent.

A sliver of hope

Global warming and wacky seasons,
Violence for no specific reasons,
Death & destruction that's rampant,
Tell me, tell me, it didn't happen!

Rising gas prices, falling economy,
All over, countries seeking autonomy,
Plotting and scheming, going on then,
Tell me, tell me, it didn't happen!

Peace and harmony, no longer a priority,
Kindness, a quality seen in a minority,
Weapons, not skills, people sharpen,
Tell me, tell me, it didn't happen!

Environment is itself in question,
Selfish reasons at one's discretion,
Our earth becoming quite misshapen,
Tell me, tell me, it didn't happen!

One day, things will all be right,
Future, for all, will be bright,
It will not be 'if', but just 'when?'
Tell me, please tell me, it will happen!

Doorway

an open doorway
to invite or inhibit,

Branched

Monday Mural

Looking into my palms,
I see my unending qualms,
In the mirror, I detect,
Self doubt, begins to infect.

As I branch out, growing,
Taking root, as life is slowing,
The arm is broad and strong,
sending fears to where they belong.

Lasting I hope, I can be,
Giving to all, like the tree,
Head held high, forever,
In the face of adversities, I endure.

Summer song

Summer’s here, summer’s here!
Umbrellas up, and sunscreen smear,
Mornings are bright, evenings clear,
Mangoes, peaches and cherries appear,
Expect to see some roadside deer,
Road trip to the sea-side pier.

Summer’s here, summer’s here!
Olympics in summer too, this year,
Nice weather, will soon disappear,
Go, on! Have fun! Without a fear!

A saga once more

Down the stairwell, she rolled,
With her, died her secret,
So he thought! but truth be told,
there was something he'd regret.

A mute spectator peering through,
In a roll of film, he caught the action,
He was found by her killer, though,
Beaten, almost dead, pleased at his infraction.

Back to life, slowly was nursed,
By a doctor, who upon him stumbled,
He kept to himself, his lips pursed,
but about a guy, he always mumbled.

A conversation, over the telephone,
About the killer, he overheard,
his ears, he quickly honed,
It was time for action, he feared.

The news caused a stir all over,
His fame shattered by his past,
Over her grave, the mute guy hovered,
Glad, she found her closure, at last!

Auto narrative

A nagging feeling I have
I feel a shake coming,
Will I just fall apart?
And, my engines break down?

I am old, but have been loyal,
Running through all the years,
Across the coast, through cities,
I have seen it all, I must say.

On all their spontaneous whims,
that they pick me and drive to,
I stood them through thick & thin,
Through some rain, and some shine.

Now, I think its my time,
And, to let me off and just stay,
I know they love me, for who I am,
But, embrace the new, they should

I think I heard a rumor whir,
A shiny hybrid to take my place,
I would still be here at home,
Ready in tow for any occasion.

Like the old horses of yore,
I'll be a teacher to all those new,
Trusted with the novices at the wheel,
Seasoned and reliable that I am.

Past my prime, still a beauty,
performance matching the young,
A trip I will take in a bit,
right here, down the memory lane.

A dog's life

He was brought in as a puppy,
Romping around, he was happy,
He didn't have a care in the world,
On the sandy beach, he rolled.

Older he grew, he was stubborn,
Impatience, in his master he'd discern,
With a dog trainer, he spent his time,
He grew bigger, into his prime.

He knew to respond to a whistle,
Seeing strangers, his fur would bristle,
Loyal, he was to his master,
He had prevented many a disaster.

In the backyard, he did spy,
A little girl, eating her pie.
He went closer, wanting to befriend,
And, a friendly paw, he did extend.

Soon, the two were inseparable,
To be without one, the other wasn't able,
Thus, they continued to live on,
soon, they realized, how time had gone.

Time passed by, he became slower,
He couldn't lead, became a follower,
Day-by-day, he grew weaker,
He could hardly drink from his beaker.

The vet said, he'd soon be gone,
upon the master, the bills piled on,
They wanted for him, all the comfort,
For he had loyally, once held fort.

His little friend was inconsolable,
To forget him, she was unable,
All the good times, together they spent,
she remembered, amidst, her lament.

A different ball game

Frequent passes,
to one who is open.
Run back and forth,
shooting baskets.
Fouls, one too many,
Both teams struggle,
Winning and losing,
just part of the game.
Someday, maybe,
I too will play,
Until then I'll be,
a silent spectator.

Guided

Friend, philosopher and guide,
Take them all in your stride,
Everyone needs someone to be each,
But, they better not just preach,
Look for, in them, these traits,
Your support, in all straits,
Ideally, leading by example,
Upon you, shouldn't trample,
But, remember, you too,
do unto them, what they are to you!

Precious pal

From under the covers,
Your shiny face peers out,
Once you get started,
There is no looking back.

Previously, you were bulky,
A new avatar, you are sleek,
Change you did always,
In response to every fad.

Your speed makes me dizzy,
But your performance is key,
No matter what you will become,
I will adore the way you are

Maybe one of these days,
Technology will breathe life into you
Until then, my laptop, you will remain
My precious, inanimate friend!

Happy Anniversary!!

Hip! Hip! And a hurray! Today is the day,
A celebration of your love going strong,
Predicted further to continue that way,
Pleasant journey that has been all along,
You just want these good times to stay!

Always together, with each other you belong.
Nothing but the best is wished you way,
Never ending stream of joys – may they throng!
Inspiring memories that were gathered day by day,
Valuable lessons too, some right and some wrong,
Each of those, however, a fear – they did allay.
Remembering the roses, not any of the thorn,
Sprinkled though, the years, were with some fray.
Advancing on forward, with togetherness lifelong,
Respect for one another, that you always essay
Your hopes of a good life, may they prolong!!!

... you know who you are:)... heartiest congratulations!

Fallen!

The valiant lies crushed,
For him, by his side, she mourns,
The whole field was hushed.

Devastated, she becomes as she learns,
Of the plots against him, the brave!
Always more, than the eye discerns.

Out of respect, she will not rave,
She will, though, fight tooth & nail,
For the motherland, he fought to save.

One day, a martyr - the world will hail!
And, peace in their land will prevail!

Uncomfortable long hours in preparation,
All smiles soon, upon completion,

Be right back!!!

Going on a break, a week, maybe two,
Swamped with commitments and things to do
Obligations demand all of my 'little' time
So much that I am not able to rhyme,
Whatever it maybe, I intend to be back
I just need the time to get on track,
Once it's done, I will be in joyous heaven
Hope to be back here, by June seven!

A new beginning...

They lived in the building, thatched,
Kids, with family dreams farfetched,
Parents, who by fate were snatched,
Living on life, almost as if detached,
They went on not once they kvetched,
A little boy there, had once sketched,
His mom's picture, in his mind etched,
One day, though, he was to be fetched,
A family who had grown quite attached,
The day, when he was to be dispatched,
He took along, a shell slightly blotched,
And a discarded soapbox, mismatched,
Rubber soles, in his shoes, very patched.
Comic book, with pages coming detached,
A postcard, that was never dispatched,
All in his tiny box, he held, securely latched,
On one hand, these memories, he clutched,
The other, toward his new mom, he stretched!

Half-done!

There are things to be done?
Better delayed than never,
Focus on, what has been begun,
There are things to be done,
Getting an edge, is half the battle won.
There are things to be done,
Better delayed than never.

My own race

Less than a month,
An exam is near,
This race against time,
Is my biggest fear,

Is it of my own doing?
Studying that I opt?
Its fun at times,
But more often not.

State of affairs!

Weary, exhausted,
Worn-out and bushed,
Beat and drained,
Sore and fatigued.

Drowsy and wiped out,
Depleted and washed out,
Sleepy and weakened,
All-in and enervated.

Best Friend

Being the way, we both are,
East or west, be it near or far,
Someone who I can count on,
Today, tomorrow or next eon,

Forever, for me, she will be there,
Rain or shine, no matter where,
It has been so, since I can remember,
Equal she is to a family member,
Notable is the impulsive rapport we share
Deep secrets and our soul, we do bare!

Choices

When he was a child, he always heard,
As he grew older, he could do whatever he preferred.

A mechanic, he could become,
Fixing up, with his set of tools, a car’s brake drum.

He could be a chef, if he so wanted,
Cooking up a storm and some spaghetti undaunted.

He could be a plumber, if he so desired,
To set up a Jacuzzi or a bathtub, he could be hired,

A carpenter, he’d make - one very fine,
Beginning, with his stool that he could now design

He had it in him to be a teacher,
Chalk, in his life, would then be a regular feature.

Any role he wanted, he could don,
Achieve anything he wanted, that he set his sights on!

Outcome

Writing I was, at breakneck speed,
To nothing else, I was paying heed,
Time seemed to be running out,
I could hear kids playing about,
Blurry writing and scratched out papers,
Lighting was dim, with burning tapers,
I could see the results, below average,
I felt like, I was trapped in a cage,
An imminent exam and its nightmares,
I am beginning to pull out my hairs,
Its just a phase and it will pass,
And, tackle it, I will; hope to surpass!

Thumbprint

Unique swirls,
Etched in gray,
Continuous curls,
forever, they stay.

A distinct pattern,
with curved lines,
Easy to discern,
No inter-twines.

One of a kind,
No two are the same,
Of all mankind,
To identify, to name.

The beauty of spring

Bright sun shone,
Brought a warm feeling,
Buzzing bees drone,
Buds open, layers peeling.

A glowing transformation,
When trees come alive,
After the winter gestation,
In spring they all thrive.

Seasons come and go,
Nature is faithful as ever,
Putting on the best she can show,
Break the cycle, she does never.

Nature leaves her sign,
Like the artist, who is famed.
She weaves her intricate design,
That he in his picture, once framed.

Keepsakes

A hockey puck, from the first date, they dared,
A plastic bottle, on their first trip, they shared,
A dirty handkerchief, which he wiped many a tear,
A crumpled note, which said he was very dear.
Just these are left, from their love before,
As he trudges along, aimless, like an unhinged door!

Delightful despair

Why is an up followed by a down?
And, a smile always by a frown,
Is happiness, in this world a crime?
If so, every human should do their time.

Being happy is a feeling so pleasant,
That people tend to get complacent
Happiness is a journey, not a destination
Every step of the way, needing satisfaction,

Two facts of life – despair and delight
Repeated oft, on the verge of trite!
But, like a coin with two sides,
One gets the path that one decides.

Overly cautious, we are, maybe?
Skeptics, we turn out to be,
Believe in it, begin to trust,
Be a little blithe, if you must.

Dream on! Be happy, don’t be paranoid,
Dreams can fill up any empty void,
Life is too short to sit and worry.
Move on forward, with fear – a nary!

Three men

"Three men", if I say, would suffice,
Like the three blind mice,
Or like the monkeys three,
Made of wood, that once was a tree.

A gasp, a frown and a smile,
All been there for a while,
They look hollowed out,
But, standing tall, without doubt.

Their faces show them to be 'wise'
Who, not long ago, were held in a vice,
They, with their bodes, mis-formed,
Portray a sense of being informed.

As they silently keep watch,
Of the envious glances, they catch,
With legs that hold them stable,
To have the last laugh, they are able.

This sculpture, this piece of art,
Among other things, does impart,
Albeit being little and small,
It does have the quality to enthrall.

My mother...

I'll tell you about someone dear
About my mother, do you want to hear?
She's made of sugar and spice.
My mother is so very nice.

She ensured clean clothes & food on the table,
She has read to us, many a fable.
To my sister and I, her two children,
My mother sure was the mother hen.

Her sacrifices are one to umpteen.
Of others welfare, she was always keen.
Because of her, our family is thriving.
My mother is always quite forgiving.

Career, life and education.
She handled all with dedication.
She faced all challenges for so long,
My mother is unbelievable strong.

We pray she has the best in life,
Let health and happiness be rife.
She does so much with hardly any rest.
My mother is absolutely the best.

Today is a special and wonderful day.
Though everyday should be 'mother's day'.
For her, we have a lot of respect.
My mother is just so perfect.

With Mother's day right around the corner, a poem for my mother...

Poetic meme...

30 Poems in the month, add one for the frustration,
Will keep them all and probably revise none!
There are favorites, Thriteen, NaPoWriMo, Ours!
How about least favorites, a few, maybe none!

A line I love, is "A subtle spectator, Veiled in the violets watches"
I really loved this by a fellow participant, UL - a great one!
Surprised that I was able to find ideas for a poem everyday!,
Continue to write, I will, probably not daily, but quite often!

A figment

In a mystical land,
Where strangeness inhabits,
Once upon a time,
Lived a pigeon and two rabbits

One fine day, they made
A pretty big ruckus,
About their new find,
That was an abacus

The rabbits were hopping mad
And the pigeon cooed all day
They couldn't compromise
As neither would step away

Off they went to find,
The town's former tovarich
Who once lived in Russia,
But moved here to fish

They thought he was smart
And he did his math
He took it away from them
And went on his own path

The pigeon flew away
And the rabbit hopped back home
As for the comrade,
As a nomad, he does roam

Where is it in the map?
This land, you wonder,
By the communes of Gravelines
It is right in the yonder!

Going along, he once slowed!

Going along the empty road
Without a care, as he rode
Leaving everything, he just soared,
The ringing of his phone, he ignored
To keep on going, he did long,
On the highway, going along

He once slowed, when he saw,
Some thing made him stand in awe,
The beauty of it was stunning,
Amazed, he stood, wary of returning
He felt refreshed, energy flowed,
He was glad that, he once slowed.

NaPoWriMo - the beginning...

Once a day creation,
Of rhymes and recitation,
Following many a suggestion,
Has come to a completion

Starting with no expectation,
Of month long dedication,
Time for declaration,
Of extreme satisfaction

At this fulfilling occasion,
I extend my congratulation,
Along with my admiration,
To all others in participation

An exercise in contemplation,
With specific care for notation,
All the ideas in gestation,
In several blogs took fruition.

Pleased with my execution,
And happy at it culmination,
I join others in the realization
Of a satisfying elation!

A Big Thank you :) to UL for the inspiration and encouragement...

And thanks to Tammy, Michelle Johnson, Tumblewords, Paisley, Gautamy Tripathy, TC , Linda Jacobs and others for taking the time to comment

The year that was...

January with its wintry cold,
Came and went in a flash
Snowstorms are no fun, truth be told.

February was here, short and sweet
A special one, with a day added
Chilly winter continues, hail and sleet.

March we saw slowly arrived
Sun shone away some of the frost
Everyone awakened, plants revived.

April was just a breeze
Spring is here, all declared
Allergies it brought many a sneeze

May was here, was barely a blur
Time to make some memories here
Warmth it brought on its way to summer

June danced by, always speeds
Bringing some vacations in its wake
Along with the laziness it breeds

July appeared with a bang
Picnics and fireworks, one a many
Independence, as everyone sang

Then it was time for August
Autumn’s here, time for fall
All good things, end they must

September drove by soon
Labor hard, as schools will open
All around leaves are strewn

October came and went unnoticed
Pumpkins and people in costumes
Nature with all its colors enticed

November dashed by real quick
Time to look back and give thanks
A big feast should do the trick

December soon made its mark
Holiday season with time abound
A cycle ended and on to new we embark

Ephemeral

Transient beauty
Painstakingly done
Forces of nature
In a flash, its undone.

Of life, its symbolic,
Its splendor forgone,
But life in it,
There is none.

With nothing,
It was begun,
Sculpted by hand,
Its magnificence will stun.

Glittering radiance,
As the sun shone,
Man made creation,
But is nature outshone?

Time capsule

If I could go back in time,
I'd bring back a few trinkets,
Things that aren't worth a dime,
but nonetheless, precious

If only I had known,
to fill a capsule back then,
To see how fond I'd grown,
of things that now don't matter

If I had the capsule by my side,
I would revisit childhood,
It would be a memorable ride,
To relive and remember!

Vocation

Valuation and recommendation,
Analyst and market specialist,
Earnings surprises and market reaction,
A few terms I work amidst.

Share repurchase and dividend,
Merge on one hand, divest on the other,
Write-off and bad debts seem to have no end,
Acquisitions swell as targets disappear.

Investor sentiment, not an emotion,
Modeling an exponential equation,
historical prices and Brownian motion,
Few exposures of my vocation.

Stress is on speed and accuracy,
human errors have no room,
Tensions abound in a frenzy,
be it recession or a boom.

Graphs, charts and spreadsheets,
Each one has its own quirks,
I love what I do, and all its treats,
And, with it come all the above perks!

Creative exercise

Unless I keep writing, my skills will molder,
Especially since, now I am getting older,
Writing is a passion, creativity my motive,
April is a month to pen, to keep up my votive.
Distractions everywhere, I have to manage
If I do focus, I can create many a page,
The key is to sort ideas, maybe splinter
To keep on writing, without any linger
Onto a catchy title, edit and punctuate,
That is all to it, something for me to create!

Stamp of a champ!

Success doesn’t come easy,
But it does favor the brave,
Failures don’t make him queasy
Nor does he give in or cave.

Victory is for the valiant,
He is daring and not meek,
Of misfortunes, he is defiant,
And, challenges he must seek.

Trials and tribulations,
Nor adversity can deter,
Weighing the implications,
Onward he will spur.

Triumphant as he stands,
‘A victor’ – says his gait,
Misery stands no chance,
As he conquers his fate.

Picture perfect...

Her exquisitely striking picture,
Reflected a perfect structure
There was not a flaw to be found,
With charm it was abound.

Deep black eyes glancing,
A smile, in them dancing,
A pleasant face so glorious
In appealing to all, it’s victorious

A grin that is bright and gay,
Contentment, it does portray
Bathed in basic simplicity,
This painting was really pretty.

Balanced carefully, with a prop,
People, who pass by, make a stop,
to glance at this impressive beauty,
The greatest work of art ever to be!

Ours! to cherish...

A spherical silhouette
Is ours to cherish
Earth, our planet,
And, we shan’t let it perish!

A balance so delicate,
Of many a element,
In a mix to create,
The prefect environment

She hums and she spins,
In the frigid space,
Amidst spatial ruins,
She holds up the brace,

She’s always nurturing
Cultivating her support,
Meantime enduring
All that we purport

Today, we should vow,
To foster and to revere,
In respect we will bow,
To this ‘life-giving’ sphere!

To save it for posterity,
Recycle, restore and renew
Immortal until eternity
We want it to be anew!

Eerie!

A light breeze, across the field blows,
Life is standstill as the day slows,
Dusk begins to creep in above,
Spreading a dull gray all below!
Alone, perched there, is a black crow
and the umbrella sways, twisted like a bow
Trying to stay steady, facing a task uphill
the picture, frozen in time, sends a chill!

Lost love

Walking away without a word
She watched him go aboard
A cry of plea almost escaped
As she stood, in her sorrows draped

Her composed self was eerie
To move away, she was weary
'Take me back' she silently mouthed
Her calmness now, she loathed

Here, she was in land of no return,
This was her loss to mourn
Peeling herself from the horizon,
She walked slowly toward the setting sun!

I am me

Smart, decent and nice,
Passive and in speech concise
Knowledgeable and well read,
Demure and well bred.

Short tempered and diffident,
Blended in, never different,
Lazy and stubborn
Nervous and at times forlorn

Fair and beautiful,
Kind and thoughtful
Generous and gentle
Loving and sentimental

Perfectionist and obsessive,
Self effacing and submissive,
Strong at times, weak at others,
Bogged down with worries and bothers

This is me, I bare my soul
Virtues I have, I can extol
Other things better left unsaid,
The thin ice of good and bad we tread!!!

A tall tale

Aboard the caprussule they left
Back into time, they would mozzle
At maneuvering it, they were adept
In outer space, cozily they nuzzle

Soon, they reached centuries back
Worried that on them, others would prey
They huddled together, with their cack
All they wanted was to find their skrey

Once they had what they came for
Off they went, traveling eons
A tale of adventure from yore
Of creatures known as glureons!

Crack of dawn

A new day dawns after the night

The rising sun with rays of light

Birds wake up and begin their flight

Oh! isn't this a beautiful sight?
But, sleep isn't to give up without a fight,

As you savor in the morning delight

Yet another beginning, new and bright
Time to get going and do things right!

Comfort

As a dark cloud descends,
With no silver lining visible
At a stage where sadness extends
And happiness isn't feasible
I try hard to make amends
But I seem to be invisible
In despair I trudge as I try to cope,
Touching my heart now is a ray of hope!!!

Today is the day

To let things go
To go on your way
To reap what you sow
To grab the day

To stand up for things
To clear any self doubt
To let dreams take wings
To stop worrying about

To just slow down
To smell the flowers
To smile away the frown
To realize your powers

To remain content
To never lament
To grasp your talent
To live in the present

Today is the day for finesse,
To declare yourself a success,
Today is the day for progress,
Yes! Today is the day to be fearless!!

Ode to my pen

This mighty pen I wield
Helps in thoughts being freed
Writing is a beautiful need,
Masterpieces, it can yield.

Poets are a different creed,
Writers too! Geniuses indeed,
As ideas grow from seed,
All you want is a pen to proceed.

What one writes, others read,
Many a dreams, this will feed.
But, Oh! So potent, it can mislead,
Observe every word, pay heed.

Power to the pen, once you cede,
In creating, you will succeed,
Born ago, from a simple reed,
Onto great heights, my pen! God speed!

I am blossoms

Budding tiny pink blooms,
In my backward, I see,
Awakening to light, as spring looms,
Making the spirits soar, in me.

After harsh wintry days,
Just as I look forward to life,
Their fragrance fills up the space,
Brightens me up - as happiness is rife

Gently, as the wind blows,
I try here today, to be resolute,
A carpet of pink slowly shows,
Spreading in me, a joy absolute

Flowers to leaves, with passage of time,
Going through the cycle of life as I do,
The tree stands tall, in their prime,
Onward I move, without much further ado.

Pensive

A Trip I take down the memory lane,
My mind is filled with a longing,
What wouldn’t I do to be young again?
A Trip I take down the memory lane,
To forget things, as I try in vain,
In it I look for a sense of belonging.
A Trip I take down the memory lane,
My mind is filled with a longing.

The green train

I see a shift,
"Hu" the new buzz word,
Human energy and Human element.

I see a shift,
Biodegradable plastic,
Chemistry and humanity bonding.

I see a shift,
innovation going green,
Clean technology is the new success.

I see a shift,
out go gas guzzlers,
Hybrids and low emissions are in.

I see a shift,
Environmental conscience,
Nature is the new inspiration.

I see a shift,
making a difference,
Goodness of ecofriendly coal power.

I see a shift,
lower carbon print,
Recycle, reuse and renew today.

I see a shift,
People and corporations,
taking care of Earth, our own.

Whiny Whys!

Why do we do the things we do?
If only we cared, if only we knew?
Why do we wake up? Why do we sleep?
Why do we hang on to the things we keep?

Why do we work? Why do we play?
What makes us what we are today?
We all go on, and on this path we stay,
This delicate balance dare not sway

Why are we here, what is our role?
A speck we are, in the universe whole
All these questions hanging around,
Can any answers for these, be found?

Infant indulgance

A baby in the house is a gift,
Lifestyles though, may need a shift.

Midnight feeds and a few many more,
Sleepless nights and days galore,

But one whiff of their sweet smelling head,
Will make you want to have more instead.

Babies have their own pitter and patter,
Once you hear it, nothing else will matter.

Then, as they grow a little more older,
You have in your hands, an active toddler.

Sulks and tantrums have their share of fun,
Just imagine if there were more than one.

Little older, as you soothe their scrapes,
In pretend play, they hold fort under the drapes.

Onto pre-schoolers with a mind of their own,
Nothing you say will ever slow them down.

Time just flies, as you enroll them in school,
Slowly they begin to think, you are far from cool.

Still amidst all the scramble, there is that day,
When you wouldn’t want things to be any other way;

They, then seem to grow just too fast,
All these good times, in memory, will last.

Their language and gestures, as you try to discern,
You see that your lessons, they did seem to learn.

On to greater things, as they fly out the nest,
In the sidelines, you stay, wishing them the best.

Soon enough you see that the cycle continues,
Your little one is a parent, paying the dues.

Up and downs, it is a roller coaster,
Before it all, courage, you must muster.

Parenting books may all seem so wise,
But, if nothing else works, you just improvise.

Hearing all this, would I want a baby?
If not a yes, its definitely a maybe!

Acrostically aesthetic

Naturally, being who I am,
Poetry is close to my heart.
Writing is something I enjoy,
More on the way, this is just a start.

Naming the poem is the challenge,
Poems without titles aren’t cared for,
Writing in different styles for a change,
Month full of poems is what I aim for.

If I may continue….

Naively I go ahead with it,
Possibly, they arent any good,
Wringing my hand, as I sit,
Moping around, in a mood!

Nagging feeling at the back,
Potentially, I could be great,
Writing I will therefore continue,
Moreover, there are reviews I await:)

Home

Home is where the heart is,
Be it concrete or hay,
Where there is love and affection,
That's "home" any day!

Many a home is broken,
For reasons unknown,
If you 'forgive and forget',
unhappy, there'll be none.

In today's harsh world,
With a load of strife,
This is my humble prayer -
"For everyone – a good life!"

I write...

I write because it feels good,
I write when I am in the mood,
I write when I get the time,
I write of things that rhyme.

I write for the joy of creation,
I write for my own satisfaction,
I write seeking recognition,
I write at my own volition.

I write about me and others,
I write when something bothers,
I write everyday for fun,
I write about everything under the sun.

Senses of Spring

I thought I smelt something,
it was the fresh smell of spring,
After a long winter, dull and dry,
Spring is here, be nimble & spry.

I thought I saw something,
it was the peek of a wing,
The little birdie is in its nest,
Spring is here, at its fullest.

I thought I heard something,
it was the sound of bees flitting,
From flower to flower, when they buzzed.
Spring is here, as the gardens are mulched.

I thought I touched something,
it was the soil, as I was digging,
Time to grow some veggies and fruits,
Spring is here, as the plants take roots.

I thought I tasted something,
it was the berries, I went a picking,
nothing like it, fresh off the tree,
Spring is here, and nature's in a beauty spree.
