Long ago were the good old days,
Touted now as the ideal of days,
Are we living in the allure of past?
Or was it great when it did last?
Is progress a double edged sword?
Faulting the convenience we can afford?
Are we too connected for our own good?
Should we go back in time, if we could?
Is there ever a measure of being?
Or from present, are we just fleeing?
Can we compare then to now?
Of a better life now, can we avow?
Teetering on more advancement,
Do we agree on life enhancement?
Or continue, will we, to pass the blame,
Attempting to reverse to, from where we came?
a lot of questions, a barrage of them, but don't have any answers myself :(
I feel my head averting, swimming in a sea of tremendously evocative questions. Well done.
ReplyDeleteIt is an assault of questions, but when you really read this, it does cause one to think. Hard.
ReplyDeleteThe Good Old Days...well there are a few things I'd love to have back, but life without my computer--how would I teach? It's my planner, speller, research assistant, grade-averager,and best of all: my file cabinet that I can find things in!!! and that's not even the beginning.

"Teetering on more advancement" is for me the most pertinent line. Here we are always embracing the new yet regretting what we leave behind.
ReplyDeleteGreat Poem.
Is there ever a measure of being?

This excerpt was my favorite of the poem, but overall it was fantastic in all aspects! Pensive, creative, great rhyming and use of words, very impressive and enjoyable!
Wow! I have mulled over these questions many times, but with no answer. You have penned it so well
ReplyDeleteA lot of unanswerable questions but put very nicely.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent, searching poem. To me, one of the problems is that change happens so fast nowadays. It used to take generations. Now you can have many big changes in a lifetime. Hence, we notice it.
ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking!

Provocative and powerfully done. For sure, the questions are puzzlers.
