Sounds at work

The gentle whirr of the AC
Monotones like the waves of sea.
The CPU buzzes on in pace,
Voices in subdued tones and bass.

The clicking of keys all through,
Everywhere these sounds imbue,
Whistling and humming I hear,
I try to guess who, before they appear.

Conversations, now are a lull,
Over their tasks, as they mull.
A moment of pause to take it all in,
A day of work, thus shall begin.

  1. Nice rhyming. I can't rhyme well to save my life, and envy those that do.

Great poem about the beginning of the workday!

  2. From Therese B. at RWP -- I like how you describe the sounds of your workplace but don't tell the readers exactly where you work or what you do. You selected your details carefully, and they were just enough for me to imagine an office.

  3. it's been so long since I've come across a rhymed poem on my rounds, I didn't recognise it at first! Which of course means you did it subtly and well :-)

  4. you captured the familiar office sounds that everyone encounters daily so well. you clearly and precisely drew the reader into an operating office without any trouble.

  5. good job picking up on those sounds we tend to ignore: AC, key strokes, etc.
